 FAQs

  • My session rates range from $210 to $225 for 50 minute sessions. I believe in doing what I can for mental health to be both accessible and sustainable. I do provide sliding scale services based on the particular need of the client and available slots.

  • I am a private pay “out-of-network” provider. That means that I do not accept any insurance and clients pay the full session fee at the time of service. However, many health insurance policies will provide some coverage for “out of network” mental health treatment. This usually occurs as reimbursement for fees you have already paid for clinical services. You can find a brief guide to understanding and using out of network benefits here.

If you plan to file for out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance company, please request a receipt from me. I will be happy to provide you with documentation (known as a Superbill) to submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits and choose to seek reimbursement.

Before you begin therapy, find out exactly what mental health services your insurance policy covers.

    Consider asking:
    - Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental/behavioral health?
    - How much of the cost is covered for an out-of-network provider?
    - Do I have a deductible?
    - What is the coverage amount per session?
    - How many therapy sessions per calendar year are covered by my plan?
    - Is there a limit on frequency of sessions covered per day or per week?
    - Are there certain services that are not covered, and for which I will not be reimbursed (e.g., are certain treatment codes excluded or limited under my plan)?
    - Is a referral required from a primary care provider? If so, how do I obtain it?

If you are looking for a list of providers included in your plan, please call your insurer or visit their website.

  • Payment is stored in your HIPAA-compliant client portal and auto-charged after each session. All major credit cards, as well as debit, HSA, FSA, and HRA accounts are accepted. Full payment is expected at time of service.

  • To reschedule or cancel an appointment, kindly provide a minimum of 24 hours' notice (1 business day) to prevent a full-session fee charge. Please be aware that missed session costs are typically not reimbursed by insurance providers. However, exceptions apply in cases of sudden illness or unforeseen emergencies.

  • I am a Licensed Graduate Marriage & Family Therapist in Maryland, which means that the client(s) must be located in Maryland at the time of session, even when attending virtual sessions.

  • Sessions are available exclusively through teletherapy.

Please Note: Due to state licensing regulations, teletherapy sessions can only be conducted with clients who are physically located in Maryland at the time of their teletherapy session.

  • Typically, I start meeting with clients once a week. All sessions are 50-60 minutes unless we discuss and agree on longer sessions. Eventually, we will transition to bi-weekly and monthly sessions. I’m flexible around the frequency of sessions, so just ask!

Please note that longer sessions may be scheduled if clinically recommended and fees for extended session will be outlined in the initial paperwork.

  • As a systemic therapist, I do not see children alone without parental involvement. Parents are essential collaborators as they know their child best and spend more time with their child during the week. Parents’ active participation is vital to helping the child break current cycles and develop new skills for home and school support. The level of parental involvement is determined by the child's developmental stage and my observations. I value parents’ input and feedback as we work together to address and improve dynamics at home and school.

  • If you're facing family conflicts, struggling with anger, emotional outbursts, and communication breakdowns, family therapy is worth considering. These negative dynamics often involve everyone in the family, and family therapy can change these patterns. I recommend exploring family therapy if you feel overwhelmed as a parent, love your child but find yourself impatient and angry, encounter challenges in communicating calmly, or if you're stuck and in need of fresh skills navigate family dynamics effectively.

  • The first session is a friendly conversation where I ask questions to get to know your story and the challenges you're facing. Our sessions are a collaborative effort that start with setting our initial goals. Then, we create a plan that fits your unique journey and determine specific markers for tracking progress. Every session is a little different because life is dynamic. If you are new to therapy and feeling nervous - that is ok! Feel free to ask me any questions about the therapy process along the way.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers, including therapists, are required to provide their clients who either don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance, with an estimate, known as the Good Faith Estimate (“GFE”), of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

In many cases, including mental health care, it can be difficult for a therapist to know how much treatment will be needed when a new client schedules services for the first time. The total cost of services will depend upon the number of (psychotherapy) sessions you attend, your individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided to you. I can speak with you about this prior to or in your initial session.

The GFE is based on information known at the time the GFE was created. It does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. There may be additional items or services a therapist may recommend as part of your care that are not reflected in GFE.

For more information about GFE and your right under it, please visit the website, https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers.

  • Choosing the right therapist is a significant decision in your therapy journey, as therapy involves considerable vulnerability. As you make this choice, it may be helpful to consider questions like, "Does this therapist have expertise in my areas of focus?,” "Do I align with their approach to mental health and wellness?,” and “Do I feel they are knowledgeable and could be helpful to me?” Ultimately, you want to find a clinician you trust and feel comfortable working with.

More about online therapy….

  • I run an exclusively virtual therapy practice and believe that online therapy can be as effective as in-person sessions, supported by emerging research. This approach offers accessibility and tailored mental health care from the comfort of your home, eliminating the need to rush from work or school and deal with the stress of commuting. It also simplifies scheduling for multiple family members, even those residing elsewhere. If you prefer in-person services, I'm open to addressing your concerns in a free consultation call, ensuring your therapy aligns with your preferences and needs.

  • I have developed fun, creative and effective therapy techniques from evidence-based therapy models that work successfully online with children, teens and families. If for whatever reason virtual therapy is not the right fit for your child, I will provide you with a referral.

  • I prioritize your privacy during teletherapy with secure, HIPAA-compliant video and software that meets confidentiality standards. Before each session, I recommend that you locate a quiet, private space and consider using headphones for added privacy. If finding a safe and private space is a concern, please share that with me during our consultation call, and we can discuss this challenge together.
